A New and Very Exciting Arrival for Croft View Construction

We are incredibly excited about Mario Mezzullo joining Croft View Construction! As you will see, as we follow his story, he is a wealth of knowledge and experience that is going to enhance everything we do. You can judge for yourself what he will bring to us. Let’s take a trip into his past…

In the beginning

We need to go back to 1980, when a young school leaver joins Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council as an apprentice joiner. Through his apprenticeship, Mario achieved his Craft Certificate and Advanced Certificate. He then moved onto academic qualifications gaining an ONC and then HNC in construction. By the age of 21, he was looking after a team of men as a charge hand.

Using the experience he had gained, Mario took advantage of an opportunity to become a foreman with Niwel Construction Limited based in Manchester and really had his skills tested dealing with subcontractors as well as his own team.

When he had an offer to become foreman at John Southworth Builders Ltd in Cheshire, he jumped at the chance. There he found out just how much he had yet to learn about the construction industry and managing people. He happily got his teeth into managing a bigger team, dealing with subcontractors, ordering materials and dealing with demanding clients.  The skills he gained then have stood him in good stead throughout his working life. He was still only at the tender age of 24 years old.

In four years, he grew in experience and knowledge, learning so much about the industry and people, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

A New Chapter

Never one to rest on his laurels, Mario took a chance and seized an opportunity to move to Scotland with his young family, where he bought a site and built his own dream home.

To ensure he understood his new working environment, he worked as a sub-contractor joiner before going to work for P Hayward & Sons Ltd as a general foreman. They soon recognised his skills and he was pricing and running jobs. This is where he first became involved in new build developments and his keen eye for details and effective running of the development was recognised, as while he was there in 1997, he won a NHBC Pride in the Job Award for the first time and thereafter the Seal of Excellence, both of which are awarded to recognise site managers who have achieved the highest standards in house building.

Mario’s next challenge was to work for one of the big boys – Alfred McAlpine Homes – where he was introduced to volume house building. Within 6 months, he had won Site Manager of the Year and later he won his second Pride in the Job Award. After three years, he was ready for his next challenge and had his eye on a contracts manager position.

This was fulfilled in 2001, when he went to work for Story Homes and helped to develop their policies and procedures and best building practice. He then moved onto become area construction manager for Senator Homes until redundancy in 2005 lead him to look at what he really wanted to do next.

His Own Boss

Mario decided that it was time to go it alone and he established a successful freelance project management business consultancy firm, Citadel Services Ltd. He subsequently went into partnership with one of his clients who had liked the business outcomes achieved and his expertise so much that they wanted him in! The business’ primary focus was on extensions, new builds, patios, and landscaping.

After eight years, Mario was seeking a career refresh and took the bold decision of going back into employment. He ended up with Story Contracting as a project manager where he had the opportunity to be involved with the new Story Homes offices at Kingmoor Park Carlisle, which if you have seen them you will know are breathtakingly stunning and Mario is really proud that he was a key member of the production team. The next project was the Training Centre and the first phases of the office refurbishment at Story Contracting’s main offices in Carlisle. He then moved onto work for Reiver Homes (the housing division of Story Contracting) at the beginning of their journey, writing new policies and procedures, and putting a production team together for building from 4 to 60+ units.

Team Croft View!

Here is where Croft View joins Mario’s journey. Adam and Mario have known each other for some years and have the same views on business practices, ethics, and what drives them to succeed. He and Adam would meet for coffee and discuss the industry – Adam shamelessly seeking advice from Mario. When looking for the key person to join the company, conversations around recruitment would always include, “We need a Mario!” as it was evident that we would benefit so much from the experience that someone like Mario could bring. So, when the opportunity arose for Mario to come on board with Croft View Construction, they were both delighted – Mario because he could get his teeth into helping a company with so much potential to grow and to thrive and Adam because, well, he needed a Mario and could actually have THE Mario!

The Croft View Team are delighted to welcome Mario into the family, where we will take full advantage of all his knowledge and experience. It is a very exciting time and we have no doubt at all that Adam and Mario are going to accomplish great things together.

Please welcome Mario Mezzullo as a new company Director of Croft View Construction Ltd!
