We have created conversions for multiple reasons; from a children’s playroom to a sound proofed Grand Piano studio. The options are varied and endless for your space, so please contact us for a free no obligation quote, or speak to us for some ideas how best to utilise the space you have.
In this Case Study we can see a conversion which provided a sound proofed Piano Studio. It was important to create the right lighting and space, along with full sound proofing in order to enable the room to fulfil its desired use.

The Brief

Our client was a piano teacher who owned a grand piano and played in an orchestra. He and his wife wanted him to have a space separate to the house which enabled him to practice and provide lessons. They had a detached garage which was the usual dumping ground and not being utilised to its full potential as a workable space for the owners. Their idea was to convert this garage into a sound proofed music room. It needed to be spacious, well-lit and welcoming for both personal use and with clients.

In the Beginning

Firstly we needed to section off an area of the garage to provide some storage facilities in one end. We created an internal timber skin to form a cavity and then insulted this to conform with building regulations. We put in a new insulated floor and connected a power supply from the house via an armoured cable. We ensured there were plenty of sockets for lamps and power points so as not to restrict the ongoing use of the space.

The Ongoing Project

We installed patio doors at one end which opened onto an Indian sandstone patio which we constructed. This provided even more usable space as well as making the room more aesthetically pleasing both inside and out. We also installed a PVC side door and window. The next task was to sound proof the room, so we used sound proofing plaster boards, which provided excellent acoustics for the desired use of the room. We plaster skimmed the ceiling and walls and installed 8 LED spotlights to ensure the room was well lit. We installed wall mounted electric heaters to ensure the room could be used all year round.

The Finish

We installed an oak engineered hardwood floor and skirtings all round. It was decorated with a light cream which enabled the room to look and feel light and spacious.

Our clients were extremely happy with the finished product. It fitted their brief exactly as they wanted and the room is used extensively.
